Welcome back to Golden View Classical Academy!
After the long weekend to cap off a long summer, we are excited to be in the classroom again.
Though this is our second year, we are still establishing solid traditions that will last for the life of the school. This morning, we began a new tradition by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance together as a school with our new American flag, from our Kindergarteners to our Eleventh Grade students. Our rising 7th Grade students, who were the custodians of the flag last year, raised our new flag and passed the responsibility for its care to our rising 6th Grade students. In doing this, we recognize the important growth that happens from Grammar to Upper School, and strengthen the school-wide common feeling that is the heart of friendship.
We also had the opportunity to recognize the outstanding contribution of one of our community members to the life of our school. Mrs. Paige Rodriguez, our school’s Board Secretary, received the first annual Heritage Award, and with it the flag that flew over our school last year. The Heritage Award is given to one person, whether student, parent, staff member, teacher, or Board member, who has given extraordinary effort, energy, and dedication to Golden View Classical Academy.
Mrs. Rodriguez has worked tirelessly to see our Phase II construction through to the end, and the building your students are studying in today exists because of her talent and commitment. She exemplifies the spirit that animates a civic association like our school, and we are grateful for her. Alexis de Tocqueville once wrote that “sentiments and ideas renew themselves, the heart is enlarged, and the human mind is developed only by the reciprocal action of men upon one another.” Such action is possible above all with the leadership of committed citizens like Mrs. Rodriguez.
Here’s to another excellent school year!
