Mr. MacGregor was born on the east coast, just outside Philadelphia, but his family soon moved west. He grew up in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he lived until he was 16 years old. In 1985, the family relocated again, this time to Eagle County, Colorado. He finished his last two years of high school at Eagle Valley High School.
Out of high school, Mr. MacGregor entered the Marine Corps and was stationed at Camp Pendleton, California, as a radio operator. After his discharge, he attended the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, where he graduated with a BA in Theater Arts. He quickly found his way into the fledgling gaming industry in Black Hawk and Central City, working as a poker dealer and supervisor for the better part of the next 18 years.
Mr. MacGregor’s desire for something more fulfilling and his feelings about the current state of public education led him back to school. He graduated, again, from the University of Northern Colorado this past summer, with a Master’s in Elementary Education.
In his spare time, Mr. MacGregor enjoys outdoor pursuits, particularly rock climbing and hiking, but he’s been known to jump on a mountain bike or into a canoe. He has climbed 37 of Colorado’s 54 Fourteeners and hopes to claim the rest in the next five years.
