Dr. Jackson was born and raised in the Midwest, moving from Minnesota to Iowa to Illinois and back to Minnesota. Wanting to experience life outside of the Midwest, she went to California for college, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Caltech, graduating with honors. She then traveled to the other coast to work on her Doctoral degree in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry at Yale University. For her graduate research, she studied plant hormone transport in Arabidopsis thaliana (otherwise known as a weed). An interest in bioremediation led her to the Center of Marine Biotechnology, in Baltimore, Maryland, where she studied anaerobic microbes that are breaking down pollutants in the Baltimore harbor. She has taught in chemistry departments at the University of Maryland, Colorado School of Mines, and Red Rocks Community College before joining Golden View Classical Academy. Dr. Jackson is married and has two children. When she isn’t teaching, she enjoys synchronized swimming, gardening, Nordic skiing, and hiking in the Colorado mountains with her family and her book on native plants of the Rockies. Dr. Jackson is thrilled to be at Golden View this year!
