Our 2015-2016 school day will run from 7:40 am to 2:40 pm.
The typical class size will be about 28 students per class and there will be two classes per grade from K-12 when the school is fully enrolled in Year 7. Classes in the upper grades may be smaller due to the Socratic seminar format.
The Uniform Policy is available on our website. Required uniform items with the Academy logo may be purchased from Lands’ End..
Golden View Classical Academy is still accepting applications for the 2015-2016 school year and uses an online application process.
To complete an application for your child, visit our Choice Enrollment page. We are beyond the lottery period for this academic year and are now accepting applications that will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis, without a sibling preference or regard for county of residence. Applicants are currently being added to waitlists for each grade and we will be selecting students up through September 30, 2015.
The waitlist will be removed on October 1, 2015 and the school will begin taking applications for the 2016-2017 school year soon thereafter.
Charter schools in Jefferson County are not typically offered transportation through the Jefferson County School District. Golden View Classical Academy is committed to helping parents organize carpools and to explore additional options. If your children is offered a seat at the school, you will be offered access to a carpool and care map to connect you with other parents looking for transportation solutions.
Golden View Classical Academy is a classical, liberal arts schools and will use the Core Knowledge curriculum (not to be confused with the Common Core) in grades K-8. In the grades 9-12, the curriculum will focus on primary source documents, classical literature, Socratic instruction, and rhetoric, or the ability to persuasively communicate logical and effective arguments and positions. As a liberal arts school, the academic program emphasizes a well-rounded program including history, literature, math, sciences, art, music, and physical activity. Additional curriculum information is available on our website.
The school will serve students with special needs. We do not ask for any demographic or special needs information until your child is offered a seat in the school. Once your child is selected for a seat, our staff, working with Jefferson County Schools, will review any Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and 504s to determine if our program is able to meet the special needs of a student. Jefferson County School personnel will make the final determination of Golden View Classical Academy’s suitability to meet any special needs.
The Summer Reading lists are posted on our website.
In classical philosophy, education balances the development of the mind with the body. As a start-up school, we will offer few organized athletics but likely begin with activities like cross country running. In Colorado, students are allowed to play athletics at another school if their primary school does not offer a sport, another good option for students.
Golden View Classical Academy will purposefully expand athletics options as resources allow, consistent with the philosophy of the school.
