Choice Enrollment and Lottery

We are accepting applications for the 2019-2020 lottery.

We encourage prospective families to attend a school tour or information session to learn more about Golden View Classical’s classical education model, curriculum, and school culture.

Please only complete an application if your student is not already enrolled at Golden View Classical. Families who already have students attending Golden View Classical will receive intent to re-enroll information prior to the lottery being conducted.

Golden View Classical Academy opened in the Fall of 2015 with a target opening enrollment of 498 students in grades K-10.  We now serve grades K-12!

Do I need to complete an enrollment application for my student currently attending Golden View Classical Academy?

No.  All students currently attending the school will be guaranteed a seat for the following year.

What preferences are offered for the lottery?

The school allows several lottery preferences.

Founding Families and Current Board Members

Families designated as Founding Families in January 2015, who helped in the creation of Golden View Classical Academy, are asked to indicate this status on their applications.  This will be verified when your application is received.

Siblings

If you have children currently attending Golden View Classical Academy, your other children will be allowed a sibling preference.  Please indicate this on the enrollment application when asked about the sibling preference.

Multiple Applications

Families who have applied for enrollment at Golden View Classical Academy should indicate the previous year(s) they have applied on their application.

Currently Attending Another Barney Charter School

Students who are currently attending another Barney Charter School will be allowed priority in the lottery upon verification of enrollment.

I have completed an enrollment application to Golden View Classical Academy, now what?

Applications submitted by 3:00 pm on the last day of business of January will be selected by random lottery, based on the number of seats available in each grade.  Applications exceeding the number of available seats will be placed on wait list.

Enrollment applications submitted after 3:00 pm on the last business day of January will be placed on the wait list on a first-come, first-served basis.

When you are notified that your child has been selected for a seat at Golden View Classical Academy, you will 72 hours to accept or decline the offer and turn in all necessary enrollment documents.

Do you offer full-day Kindergarten?

No, the school does not offer full-day kindergarten and instead offers a morning and afternoon kindergarten session.  This is in line with the Core Knowledge sequence that treats kindergarten as a half day program.

Several child care programs offer shuttles to and from Golden View Classical Academy to provide parents full day coverage for their children.

When is the actual registration?

Registration will take place in the spring prior to the school year, and Golden View Classical Academy may conduct it online, in person, or a combination of the two. At the time of registration, Golden View Classical Academy will also collect student fees from parents/guardians for consumables.

How will the Wait List work?

Golden View Classical Academy has a wait list for each grade based on the number of open seats available. When an opening occurs, the first student on the wait list for that grade will be offered a seat.  An opening may occur if a parent fails to complete the necessary enrollment documents within 72 hours, fails to register, or decides to attend another school.

What is Early Access?

Early Access is the process through which highly advanced gifted children receive early entrance to kindergarten (at age four) or first grade (at age five). Parents must submit an application portfolio for their child to be considered for Early Access by 3:30pm on April 1, 2019.  Determination decisions regarding qualification for Early Access will be communicated to parents no later than May 31, 2019. Please contact Mrs. Atherton for more information about Early Access or application portfolios.

Early Access Timeline for the 2019-2020 school year:

  • November 1, 2018 -- Window opens for accepting Application Portfolios

  • April 1, 2019 -- Deadline for submitting Application Portfolio

  • April 30, 2019 -- Phase 1 screening complete, Phase 2 assessment begins

  • May 31, 2019 -- Last day determination letters will be sent to families

Please note that should your student receive an offer of admission prior to the completion of Early Access determination acceptance of that seat is contingent upon that student's qualification for Early Access. Likewise, qualification for Early Access does not guarantee an offer of admission.
