WHO WE ARE
Dr. Garrow earned a BA in political science from the University of Colorado at Boulder and a Ph.D. in politics and policy from Claremont Graduate University.
He has taught for the Political Theory Institute at American University, at California State University at San Bernardino, at Pitzer College, and for the Navy. His first teaching position was aboard the USS George Washington, a Nimitz class aircraft carrier stationed in Yokosuka, Japan. After teaching at the collegiate level, Dr. Garrow served as the Assistant Principal at Founders Classical Academy of Leander, a sister school that is also part of the Barney Charter School Initiative. At Golden View Classical Academy, he teaches American Government and Moral Philosophy.
Dr. Garrow lives in Boulder with his wife and three children.
Mr. Petersen was born in North Dakota, but spent his childhood in Nebraska. His family moved to Connecticut briefly, then settled in Houston, Texas, where he spent the next 40 years. Mr. Petersen played on the first men’s basketball team at the University of Mary Hardin Baylor, and graduated from Sam Houston State University with a B.B.A. in Economics.
Mr. Petersen discovered his passion for youth education and mentoring during his time as a youth pastor and coach and, along with his experience home-schooling his children, he determined that education was his true calling. He pursued this career as headmaster at classical schools in Texas, Arkansas, and Las Vegas before coming to Golden.
Mr. Petersen’s proudest achievements are his children. His son Micah, holds a Masters in Human Geography and double majored in Chinese and International Relations. He is a Eugene Dupont Scholar, a Schwarzman Scholar, and a U.S. Army officer, and he is currently studying international relations in China. Mr. Petersen’s daughter is a Greehey Scholar in the Greehey School of Business at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, where she also plays division 2 tennis.
Mr. Petersen and his wife enjoy outdoor activities in Colorado with their dachshund, Duke.
Mr. Gilmore is a Colorado native. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing Management with a concentration in English from Hillsdale College. He served as team captain in cross country and track and received NCAA Division II Academic All-American accolades. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Applied Sports Psychology from Adams State University. He spent summers coaching at youth sports camps. Upon graduation, he taught Kindergarten-5th Grade in South Korea. He believes that a physical education is imperative in a classical setting. It provides an opportunity to teach the core virtues of Golden View Classical Academy in a disciplined environment. It also promotes a lifelong appreciation of health and physical activity, which is necessary for a responsible, independent and productive life. Mr. Gilmore teaches 1st-4th Grade and 8th Grade physical education. He coaches high school cross country and track. He is also the school’s Athletic Coordinator.
